Inclusion of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) in National NCD Programme

13th August 2024, 10:00 am: People to People Health Foundation, in collaboration with DEESHA (Diabetes [Type 1] Education & Empowerment Strategic Health Alliance), hosted a pivotal roundtable discussion. under the esteemed guidance of the. This significant event marked a major step forward in the national health agenda, focusing on the critical inclusion of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) in the National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Programme.
The roundtable brought together over 60 diverse stakeholders, representing Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), government of India, non-governmental organizations, corporate leaders, industry networks, bilateral development agencies, patient organizations, medical institutions, academia, researchers, clinicians and diabetes experts, support groups, advocates, paediatric endocrinologists and people living with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) met for the Roundtable Discussion on “Inclusion of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) in National NCD Programme” on 13th August 2024 using a structured participatory meeting methodology.
The members, in a participatory manner, have worked as team to review and synthesize the list of recommendations and urgent actions based on the need, experiences, evidence around in India on Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). Participants of the Roundtable came together in an effort to extend collaborative and practical recommendations towards strengthening the National Policy on NCD with inclusion of provisions for people living with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) in India.

Mr. Rohan Arora, Project Manager for Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation “Patient organizations must be included in policy making initiatives and every type 1 diabetes patient should be connected to a patient organization at the time of diagnosis”.

The purpose of the alliance is to:
1.Raise awareness, foster collaboration, and advocate for improved programs on diabetes with a special focus on T1DM.
2.Serves as a unique platform for bringing together key stakeholders to advocate for improved policies, programs and increased financing for sustain support on T1DM.
The core role of DEESHA is to focus on 03 areas of action:

We host the secretariate of AASTHA (Asia-Africa Supply Chain Transform Health Alliance), a multi-stakeholder alliance platform of leaders by bringing partners together, fostering collaboration, leveraging technology, improving end-to-end processes, and mobilizing collective strengths for sustainable health supply chain processes.
PPHF believes that the underlying causes of the gender gap in health service delivery can be addressed by facilitating equal access to women and men in their use of preventive health care, their health behaviours, and their health care and treatment. We focus on gender-inclusive approaches for better health programming in collaboration with stakeholders.
