According to the International Diabetes Federation Report 2025, more than 30% of people living with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) in India are below the age of 20. People to People Health Foundation (PPHF) remains committed to improving the lives of such children and adolescents by addressing these issues through DEESHA—Diabetes (Type 1) Education and Empowerment Strategic Health Alliance.
DEESHA is a collective of committed stakeholders working to advocate for stronger government focus on T1DM care and management in India, with PPHF as its Secretariat. As part of this effort, we’re conducting a study titled “Understanding the Needs and Provisions for Children Living with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in India,” aimed at assessing the out-of-pocket costs faced by children living with T1DM and their families.
To advance this work, PPHF held a discussion on April 30, 2025, with Rajiv Tandon, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Sheryl S. Salis, Mahira Saiyed, Nupur Lalvani, and others to finalize the sample size and strategy for the study. This meeting marks another meaningful step toward better understanding the T1DM landscape in India—particularly among underserved communities.
