Assam’s Devastating Floods
The recent floods in Assam have caused immense suffering, with over 21 lakh people losing loved ones, homes, livelihoods, and facing immense hardship. As the monsoon season continues, numbers affected will rise. PPHF is monitoring the situation in Assam and working to mobilize resources to respond to the emerging health needs in collaboration with local partners.
Immediate Relief Plan
- We have begun providing critical support in the worst-hit districts of Kamrup Rural, Darrang, and Dibrugarh, aiming to reach approximately 36 lakh people
- Our local team is collaborating with the local administration, MPs, MLAs, grassroots organizations (RK HIV AIDS Research and Care Centre, AED Foundation, Swastikam), and medical professionals to deliver:
- Health camps to prevent the spread of diseases
- Food and nutrition kits
- Hygiene and survival kits
- Medical consultations and medicines
Long-Term Recovery Plan
- Working with the government to prevent vector-borne diseases
- Offering rehabilitation support
- Continuing extended medical assistance through health camps
- Establishing a platform for ongoing psychological counseling and preparedness training for future disasters
